Question:
Hi there Lady Lash,
I’ve recently been researching about lash extensions and heard that you guys are happy to answer any questions. I was wondering whether you could help me out?
After using lashes for about a year (overseas – not with you guys unfortunately!) I’ve had a check of my natural lashes and was a bit concerned to see that it looks as though my right eye has less lashes than my left! I don’t think I was cleaning my extensions properly for a while (I was definitely a bit rough, especially with getting off my eyeliner after a long day!) and in about July last year realised that I was allergic to the lash serum I was using. Would this have affected my natural lashes? My technician recommended a different serum, which I have been using, but I just want my natural lashes to grow again! how long can you have eyelash extensions or should I be taking a break for the natural lashes to regrow (I really don’t want to!)? Now that I know about cleaning them correctly, will they start growing with the lash serum?
I’d really appreciate any advice!
Aisling
Hi Aisling,
Thanks so much for your question and some background info on your lash journey!
I’m so sorry to hear that you experienced an allergic reaction to serum, that’s never nice. And glad to hear that you have found one that’s working for you. If the lashes were strained at any point this can cause changes, but during the course of your natural lash cycle your lashes do continue to grow. Only in very serious cases of continuous stress (such as wearing inappropriately sized/weighted extensions long term, lash extensions that are not applied with isolation, or continually pulling at your lashes) will you find an individual may have long-term lash loss.
When it comes to natural lashes, we find that no two eyes are identical – lash growth can slightly vary from eye to eye. So it is possible that one eye naturally has more hair follicles than the other – we see this all the time. However if the lashes are not being taken care of while wearing extensions, both the extensions and the natural lashes can be compromised. That’s why proper aftercare is so important!
A lash serum is fantastic to use to strengthen up your natural lashes! There are many lash serums on the market, so make sure you do your research –our technicians swear by Lash Game Growth Serum, a serum with specially engineered peptides to stimulate growth. The lashes that come through will be small and slender baby lashes, which will strengthen and lengthen as they grow. For regrowth to become visible may take some time (and daily use of the serum) so patience is key!
If you or your technician are ever worried about the health of your natural lashes, then a break may be needed. However, if the extensions applied have been the appropriate length and thickness for your natural lashes, you have been cleaning them gently with an oil-free cleanser and using a lash shampoo there is no reason that you cannot continue wearing extensions. In fact, a large proportion of our clients here have been wearing lashes continuously for 5-10 years with no problems whatsoever. If you start taking special care in cleaning off eye makeup (which can block hair follicles and hinder hair growth) then you will probably see your own lashes returning to good health.
I hope that this has helped you, if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask!
