What really happens in a cosmetic tattoo treatment?

Do you get to choose and discuss the shape? Does it bleed a lot? And does it really hurt? We thought we’d show you, as well as tell you!
Recently we filmed an entire live treatment with Noush, one of our master tattoo artists – from consultation, to drawing, to what happens during the treatment – as well directly afterwards. Obviously, we’ve condensed all of this into 4.5 minutes, but we’ve filmed every single part – and we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

We’re often asked how long the treatment takes – and if it’s painful. The treatment takes between 2 to 3 hours in total and this includes numbing the brows (we direct you to a compounding pharmacy who will make up a STRONG prescription numbing cream/anaesthetic that’s safe for you personally) as well as time spent drawing/preparing the shape and discussing colours and techniques – so don’t worry, it’s not 3 hours of constant tattooing!
😅
As for pain – it’s usually very minimal and some people feel nothing at all.  Most people find it extremely bearable and many people actually fall asleep during the treatment. If you start to feel discomfort, we can top up the numbing.
. We spend quite a lot of time in the drawing and consultation stage because it’s really important that you are happy with the shape that we draw, so that we can ensure you’re happy with the finished look. So don’t be concerned if this step takes time and your tattooist makes multiple revisions whilst drawing. Sometimes we’ll try a couple of different shapes out before we agree on one. We abide by the theory – measure twice, cut once!
The actual tattoo/microblade (and often a combination of both) takes around 60-90 minutes – and then afterwards, we will go over the aftercare instructions thoroughly and you’ll be given a little homecare kit to take with you. Initially, the tattoo will be darker and more vibrant than it will heal. It’s always good to be prepared for this, because it can be a bit of a shock initially (especially for those with little to no brow hair). It fades and lightens quite a lot over the next few weeks so don’t panic. Skin grows over the area and mutes the colour, and the pigment lightens as it dries in the skin.
At the retouch visit, we will often make the brows a little darker. We prefer to not go full-strength at the first visit, because it is much easier to darken the brows than lighten them. We are 100% not about that ‘sharpie’ look, and by using this technique we can avoid it!
Do you need to take time off work? Not really – I mean, obviously to be here (hint: you’re at a ‘specialist’ appointment!) – but you can go back to work the same day or the next day without any drama. Unless you work in an environment where dirt is likely to get into the area or the brows will become very wet (i.e. if you are in a profession like landscaping/heavy duty cleaning or trades/cooking/swimming teacher and the like) – in these cases, it’s best to discuss it with us in advance so we can help you plan the best timeframe for your tattoo so the result is good.
The most common feedback we get when our clients come in for their 6-week adjustment/perfection visit, is “I wish I did this years ago!”
If you’ve got any questions at all about how this treatment works, or would like to come in and have a consultation, get in touch – as we’d love to help you create the brows of your dreams!
